The Magazine That Will Have Your Family Talking About God
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this review or post, but all opinions are our own.
This month we had two great unit studies to review along with the digital version of Creation Illustrated magazine. We jumped right into the fall copy and used the accompanying Pine Tree Study Guide.
Take a Moment to Nurture Your Senses
Creation Magazine has been a calm for busy families for almost twenty-five years. Their goal was to “restore and inspire a balance of mental, spiritual and physical enrichment in every issue.”
Feeding the Soul
Each issue is filled with inspiring, character building lessons. The fall issue had an article about how the Bailey family is using their family garden to bring the local community together and serve their neighbors. The articles are easy to read and friendly for kids as well as engaging for adults. I loved the Highlights and Stewardship pages.
Susannah Dorfsmith shares a great article about Pursuing Pathways of Peace. She walked us along her favorite places in the woods and forests, talking about each path and the seasons that change them. She likens these paths to Christ’s call to come and follow him on a similar path. Beautiful and full of turns and blind corners for us to build our trust in Him.
A Feast for the Eyes
Creation Illustrated is no amater magazine when it comes to it’s visual art. This issues spread about the Grand Canyon made me want to go back for a creation oriented tour. I had not been to the canyon since I was a child, but I would love for my kids to experience the canyon from the eyes of a guide that can share about the wonders the Canyon offers and the ways it shows the validity of the word of God.
If you have animal lovers they will not be dissapointed either. The article about Kangaroo Care was full of pictures. I had not readlized that there were so many different looking Kangaroos. They are diverse and funny. My kids enjoyed getting to read more about their care and getting to see them in detail.
There are also photography contests and inspirations in every issue forthe aspiring photographer.
Brain Food
We enjoyed many science related articles in the Fall Issue of Creation Magazine. We studies Pine Trees in depth and were able to explore even more with the Study Guide. The Winter Issue offered and indepth Snow Unit Study, the fall study offered a great variety of ways to learn about Pines of all sorts. There was way more to offer the kids than I first expected and an older child would enjoy this as a true independent study. Overall I would say it well thought out and far above and beyond most busywork you get.
Included in the Unit Study was a Bible Study on Trees, Pine Tree Geography with online research. The Word Find was the first thing snatched up and the Art study was a close second.
I was glad to see that after reading all about Pines their Art showed that they had learned more than I thought. Their trees showed the details that they had read about, cones, uncovered roots and exposed branches. No triangles!
Vocabulary, spelling, a writing assignment. Enough to cover English for a week and we are going to use the Scientific observation sheet the next time we head out the the public park.
Making Creation a Reality
The kids learned a few new facts the in depth article about the days of creation. This was the second part of the tenth series devoted to the creation week. There is no shortage of things to discover when it comes to creation. The Fall ’17 article covered Creation Day 2: The Creation of the Firmament.
The article spread over six pages, with beautiful photography, graphs and call outs as well as great facts and scientific data. All of this brings the story of creation into a physical reality. This is so valueable in a world where ever show, placard and cartoon is espousing to history happening millions and millions of years ago.
Even without the optional study guide the Creation Illustrated Magazine offered a great summary and application page with some suggestions that we are going to try to do.
