Top Personal Property Hack To End Your Kids Bickering

If you listened to my talk at the Homeschool Super Hero Summit on July 25th, you heard about my most fantastic parenting hack to solve the never-ending job of the property manager. Are you sick of navigating who’s got whose personal property? I was, too! You need this toy storage hack in your life now.

Time for Ownership of Personal Property

When the kids were small, our playroom was full of communal property. Items like books, coloring materials, small toys, and blocks belonged to the house. We hosted bible studies, small groups, and friends, so sharing was highly encouraged. It was an attribute we actively worked on intentionally with our kids with the shared toy set-up.

As the children grew older, they became more interested in individualized matters and needed to learn the value of personal property. The question was, where do we keep their items safe and away from little hands?

Time to Give Ownership Back to the Kids

My solution was a perfect toy storage hack. We purchased a large toolbox online and a combination luggage lock for each of the older children. The 20-inch toolbox was just enough size to keep their items protected without creating a war chest horde. The moderate size helped them decide what they valued, what they did not want to share, and what they were willing to allow others to play with.

The best part was that keeping personal property safe was no longer my job.
